Happy 1st Birthday, Jacob!!

We had a small gathering at Growing Young Cafe to celebrate his birthday. The establishment is kid friendly, so it worked out well for the babies, toddlers and their parents. Jacob seemed to enjoy everything in spite of skipping his morning nap that day. He wasn't quite sure what to do with the cake as he had not had anything like that before. He smeared his hands around in the icing sprinkles and managed a few pieces in his mouth before it came flying back out again. Still having a few texture issues with food. He's doing good though with things like toast, crackers, puffs, cooked veggies, etc.

Tough Love

We have been very busy bees trying to keep up with little Jacob! He's almost triple mobile now as he has figured out how to get his feet under him and go places. Yep, he's starting to walk! He wouldn't let us guide him by holding his hands and didn't need any convincing. He's a very determined little boy! He has 8 teeth now. 4 on the bottom and 4 on the top. I think those one year molars are trying to make their move soon too. He's even had his first dentist appointment! He's good to go until another year.

This past weekend, we gave the CIO method a trial run (crying it out). We're kind of at our wits end on trying to coax him to sleep at night, so we'll see how this works. I still haven't bought or read any books, just excerpts and info from the internet on what strategies to try. I'll post an update once we've made some headway. (Short update: he's crying a little less each night, so he's getting the hang of it. He's still not happy about it when he's not dead tired.) (another update as it's taking me about 4 days to write this post...Bill got him to go down tonight after a bottle with no crying!!) :)

My stint as a SAHM was short lived as I'm now working a couple of part time jobs. One is mapping data at a place in downtown Asheville called BUILDERadius. It has some potentials, the biggest one being eventually becoming a remote position where I can work from home, or anywhere I have access to the Internet. The other is home schooling a 12 year old boy. He has some learning disabilities, but is a very bright boy that likes to think outside the box! This also allows his mother to spend some time with her full time engineering business she runs from home. It pays to be versatile these days in order to make ends meet.
